After the pandemic, the interest in hygiene products has increased a lot. In this period when sustainability is on the agenda like never before, Turkish wet wipes manufacturer Sapro announced that it has reduced its carbon footprint in production by 14 percent with its new generation fabric.

In recent years, especially during Covid-19 pandemic, the demand for hygiene products continues to increase. While companies operating in this field direct the sector with their innovative products, they also take initiatives to reduce the effects of the climate crisis. Finally, wet wipes manufacturer Sapro has produced a new generation and more environmentally friendly fabric. According to the information given, the fabric, which is softer and faster biodegradable, reduces its carbon footprint by 14 percent compared to generic viscose. Sapro General Manager Murat Gönül explains that they carry out an integrated production from raw material to finished product. Noting that they have been in the investment process for the last three years in all business lines and that the planned investments have been completed by the end of 2022, Gönül says, “Our target for 2023 will be to realize production activities that will use 100% of the capacity increase provided by our investments. We are planning to increase employment at the same rate as the capacity increase.” Saying that 161 million sheets are produced per day in Sapro factories, Gönül states that with the new line investments made in 2022, the production capacity has increased by 40 percent and that they aim to use 100 percent of this capacity in 2023.

Their goal is to have all plastic packaging recyclable or reusable by 2030. In the next 5 years, they aim to realize new projects they have planned in the fields of renewable energy, digitalization and automation. In this new technology,since natural fibers are processed with a new technology, a new generation sustainable fabric has emerged, which is high-performance, softer, faster biodegradable and produced with less carbon footprint compared to generic viscose fabric. Since some of the components go into production without any pretreatment, they are produced with a 14 percent reduction in carbon footprint compared to generic viscose.”
