Order of Civil Merit of the Kingdom of Spain to the Honorary Consul of Spain in Antalya

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu attended the ceremony Order of Civil Merit and Medal Ceremony to Hasan Akıncıoğlu, Honorary Consul of Spain of Antalya. In addition to Minister Çavuşoğlu, Antalya Governor Münir Karaloğlu, Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Muhittin Böcek, Spanish ambassador Gonzalez Barba and many guests attended the ceremony. The ceremony was held at the hotel in the city center. Speaking at the ceremony, Çavuşoğlu congratulated Akıncıoğlu. Çavuşoğlu stated that Spain was not an ordinary country for Turkey, said that strong ties with these countries in all fields.

“We have excellent relations with Spain” said Çavuşoğlu and “We have more potential to consider together. Spain is our 6th largest partner in Europe in terms of trade relations. At the same time, Spain is the 7th largest country investing in Turkey. Spain has always trust in Turkey. We did not see each other competing in tourism. We complement each other. Discussions going on Turkey buying the S-400s. We needed an air defense system because everyone has missiles. These also threatening NATO. When there were problems with Syria, The US, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy and Spain sent patriot batteries. In the process, unfortunately, the US, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy who didn’t buy S-400s, withdraw the patriots. Spain was the only country in our border that extended the air defense system. Spain, was the only true friend of Turkey on this issue.”

Hasan Akıncıoğlu said that the consular story started 35 years ago. Akıncıoğlu stated that Spain and Antalya have very similar characteristics and said “During the first years of tourism, I was in between the arrival of commercial delegations from spain to Antalya. The delegations supported our tourism entrepreneurs. Now it has been our tourism entrepreneurs sell their products to Spain. We bought the first rail system wagons from Spain. Some of our agriculture companies sell seeds to Spain. They are a source of pride for me.”
