Spanish Barcelo plans new investments in Türkiye

Barcelo Group President Simon Pedro Barcelo stated that they plan to increase the number of hotels in Türkiye to 20 in the next five years and that they will open a 5-star hotel in Cappadocia at the end of this year.

Making a statement on the subject, Group President Simon Pedro Barcelo stated that they serve with more than 280 hotels in 25 countries and that they are the second largest hotel chain in Spain and the 30th largest hotel chain in the world thanks to the investments they have made and said, “We strongly believe in Türkiye, where we have invested more than 70 million euros so far, and we trust its potential.”

Stating that Türkiye is a very important country for them in terms of expansion strategies and growth plans, Barcelo said, “As a group, we will increase our investments in Türkiye, a market we have been in for 25 years and know well. We are currently serving with more than 500 rooms in 2 hotels in Istanbul and 1 hotel in Ankara. In the next five years, we plan to increase the number of hotels to 20. Our goal is to increase our presence in Istanbul and Ankara. In addition to important cities such as Izmir, Bursa and Konya, we aim to open new hotels in the most popular holiday destinations such as Bodrum, Antalya and Alanya.”

Opening a 5-star hotel in Cappadocia at the end of the year

Barcelo announced that they will open a 5-star hotel in Cappadocia, one of the most attractive destinations in Türkiye, by the end of this year and said, “We want to evaluate investment opportunities in Türkiye. In this context, we will open a five-star hotel with approximately 200 rooms in Cappadocia at the end of the year. At the same time, we are planning to organize direct flights to Cappadocia with our airline called Iberojet.”

Türkiye turnover 22 million euros

Stating that the group’s 2023 budget is to reach 5.6 billion euros, Barcelo continued as follows: “Of this budget, 1.9 billion euros comes from the hotels division. Our Turkish company’s turnover of 22 million euros in 2022 confirms our commitment to support the economic, social and cultural development of the country. We are very pleased with the performance of our hotels in Türkiye, which are operating at 85 percent occupancy and welcoming guests from more than 120 countries.”

Stating that they have an ongoing business model with management and lease agreements, Barcelo said that they may consider investing in property if there is a suitable opportunity.
