Vodafone and DAMAC to invest $100 million in data center in Türkiye

Vodafone Türkiye Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engin Aksoy stated that they have joined forces with DAMAC to bring a new data center to the country and said, “In this context, the total investment amount of the joint data center project to be established in Izmir is expected to reach 100 million dollars. And the partnership in this investment is 50-50 percent.

The details of Vodafone Türkiye’s cooperation with Edgnex Data Centres by DAMAC, one of the international digital infrastructure providers, were shared at the meeting organized with the participation of Vodafone Türkiye CEO Engin Aksoy and Edgnex Data Centres by DAMAC Vice President and Board Member Aqil Ali.

According to the information given at the meeting, a new data center will be opened in Izmir within the scope of the cooperation. The data center, in which an investment of approximately USD 100 million is foreseen, is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2025.

Stating that digital transformation is critical for the resilience of national economies and societies, Aksoy said that the sector plays a pioneering role in Türkiye’s achievement of the “Digital Türkiye” vision and in making digitalization a lever for economic development.

Aksoy stated that the sector has made a significant contribution to economic and social development by expanding broadband infrastructure equipped with next generation technologies and providing access to digital tools.

Aqil Ali, Vice President and Board Member of Edgnex Data Centres by DAMAC, pointed out the importance of the cooperation for them and said:

Partnership structure will be 50-50 percent

Engin Aksoy informed that the partnership in the investment will be 50-50 percent, and said that they will create new jobs in the new center and continue to contribute to the economy with the center planned to be launched in 2025.

Ayrica drew attention to the place and importance of artificial intelligence in the sector and stated that artificial intelligence will have an important place in the new center.

Danish Nayar, Vice President of Investments at Edgnex Data Centres by DAMAC, said that they see potential in Istanbul, Ankara and other cities in terms of data centers, that they focus on Middle East countries for investment, and that Türkiye is an important country for them.
